EXTRAVAGANZA

Jesse Greenblatt

Peep through the hole of the red and orange tent

and see the spectacular sight…

What does the word funeral have in it, boy and girls?

FUN, FUN, FUN

One elephant, two elephant three elephant four

Marching down the aisle as the host begins to roar

WELCOME TO THE FUNERAL I am your host, The Fool

Now remember boys and girls there is but one rule

You

Must

Remember

To

Smile

when the casket is brought down the aisle

Cry tears of joy

and oh my boy, the host says to the littlest one

remember this is all….

FUN FUN FUN

No tears allowed, this is just a game

So use your cotton candy to dab those tears of shame.

Shall we play?

Polka-dotted casket on the stage

open up, jack in the box

what is this on the clown,

a frown?

Laughter turns to shrieks,

children gasping for breath

monkeys prodding the clown, jumping up and down

“Now for the final act,” the host whispers

We will make this dead clown

disappear.

A perfectly healthy sentence, it is true, is extremely rare. For the most part we miss the hue and fragrance of the thought; as if we could be satisfied with the dews of the morning or evening without their colors, or the heavens without their azure. - Henry David Thoreau
