Cavalier, a new interdisciplinary arts magazine out in bookstores nationwide, is looking for hot visual arts talent. Specifically, we’re looking for your work to redefine our work.
Our aesthetic? Decadent, baroque, anachronistic, ornate, playful, Romantic, excessive, seductive. What are we looking for from you? We want your art to bring new life to the stories and poems we have published. Our writers are the very best in the game—winners and finalists of the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, Guggenheim and NEA fellowships—and we're looking for your best to complete the picture. We want you to bring your vision and imagination to their stories and poems and respond to them through your own medium.
Your work may be in any medium (and we seriously mean any medium, as long as it's visual). You may structure or conceive of your work as a response, a reaction, an envisioning, a re-envisioning, an illustration, an interpretation, whatever you like, as long as it takes a story or poem of ours as a starting point. Basically, we want you to inhale one medium and breathe out another.
*This is a visual art competition. Not all submitted work will be accepted. Those that are chosen will be displayed alongside stories and poems in our online magazine, and finalists will have space in a gallery in New York City to showcase their work at one of Cavalier’s events. The artist will retain all rights and all original art.
~We're in the business of exchanging "imagination for imagination."
